It’s a new dawn, It’s a new day…

I’m a morning person now.

I don’t know if that term is exactly accurate, but i think it’s got a lot of truth to it. I’ve always been nocturnal. Thriving when it’s dark and the rest of my world is asleep. Walking in the middle of the road at 2am kicking rocks in the quiet. It’s hard to recall 2 nights in a row that i felt rested when i woke up. My circadian rhythm is backwards. I’ll blame hiphop, why not?

This condition of insomnia and night time inspiration has worked well with my schedule. It’s no surprise that musicians stay up late because our shows are always late. I have some ugly memories of Glue not going on until 1am, because the crowd just showed up. We would be exhausted at the end, but the bright side is we always felt like we accomplished something when the crowd turned into a mini riot when the rest of the world was sleeping. I also remember the day i realized i’d never recorded a song in the daylight.  It wasn’t something we strive for, but it always seemed to work out that way. You let yourself go in certain ways at 4am that i find translate well on record. Carrying on the “recording at night time like a vampire” tradition has been fairly easy and even more appropriate for this new album. The stories in my mind always take place at night, by candlelight or by a fire. Some of the songs happen just by moonlight. The dark feel to the whole concept was really inspired by how you feel in the dark. Anyway…

These last few years have been quiet for me. Since Glue disbanded and went on sabbatical i’ve been trying to piece together a new stage show for this album. It’s hard work. Finding the combination of musicians who are willing to travel and willing to learn someone’s material is tough anywhere, but New Hampshire is especially difficult. I’ll figure it out soon.

If you look at the media player you’ll see a sneak preview of a new song from the Volume in the Ground sessions. It’s called “On the Move (all over again)” Featuring Alexandrah from Solillaquists of Sound (www.myspace.com/alexandrah517) and produced by DJ MF Shalem (www.djmfshalem.com). Enjoy. I’m going to take it down soon and post another new song. I might try to do that every couple of weeks. We’ll see.

In non me news please check out these great things…

My good friends Redwing Blackbird just recently released their 2nd record “That River Skinned a Bear”.  http://bit.ly/9gUQjk It’s great.
